Ashfield Athletic 1 v 3 Greenock Juniors

Greenock maintain there winning ways with a great disciplined performance against Ashfield on Saturday.
Greenock started where they left off from last week’s game against Bellshill with a great team performance once again. Either team wasn’t creating anything really in front of goal, that cause either keepers any real problems.
In the 18th minute Ashfield took the lead through a freekick which wasn’t cleared by the Greenock defence, and opened up to Ashfield forward No.10 who calmly put the ball past Rodgers. Greenock started to take control of the game as there was attack after attack, and John Paul Dow played Harry McLachlan in and his shot hit the post and there wasn’t any takers to follow up on the rebound.
Greenock got the equalizer in the 27th minute, when a throw in was controlled by Jp Dow who chipped it into the box which Joe Gilmour headed into the corner of the goal.
Greenock had a great chance to take the lead just before half-time, Mooney took a early free-kick from 24 yards and caught out the home keeper, which somehow he got across his goal to make a terrific save and keep the score line at 1-1
Greenock were on top as Ashfield discipline started to take it’s toll as 4 players were booked in the 1st half as both teams went in at the break 1-1.
HALF-TIME
Greenock came out all guns blazing in the second half to try get the 2nd goal and they got it in the 63rd minute. Mooney took a long throw-in which wasn’t cleared by the home defence and there was a goal mouth scramble in which John Paul Dow blasted the ball high into the net and give his team a 2-1 lead.
Ashfield was reduced to 10 men in 70th minute after a bad challenge on John Paul Dow just outside the box. Martin Dow was next to try his luck in front of goal and his shot some how just went past the post. Ashfield was reduced to 9 men in the 79th minute after the player verbal abused the referee and sent him packing also.
Greenock scored a 3rd goal in the 80th minute when Harry McLachlan collected a pass in the box and passed to Jp Dow, which he lay-off for Joe Gilmour who calmly placed the ball high into the net.
John Paul Cannon was nearly next to score as his header was some how well saved by the home keeper. Davie Rodgers had 3 fine saves in the closing minutes to keep Greenock’s 2 goal lead and Greenock took all 3 points and climb 2nd in the league.
