Greenock Juniors 4 v 2 Newmains United

Bitter Winds couldn't keep the heat off the pitch when Greenock and Newmains United locked horns at Ravenscraig on Saturday.

An impressive performance from Greenock's new man Stephen Malone started when after just four minutes he scored the opening goal with a header past Brown's bottom right.

The first half quickly became deadlocked as possession changed hands at every opportunity and no real chance were made by either team.

In the 10th minute of the second half Newmains fought back hard and when the ball changed hands after a chance for Greenock, substitute Shaun Murphy finished a run by getting the ball past rodger and equalising.

Two minutes later, Murphy pushed past the Greenock defence again but was taken down inside the boxby Rodgers and awarded a penatly. Jamie McDonald stepped up and put Newmains in front 2-1.

A trademark Mooney corner brought Greenock back into play when the ball was played into ythe box, were Colin Sutherland made contact and sent the ball into Brown's bottom right. The same two players set up Greenock's third. Another corner from Mooney was played into the six-yard box and Sutherland header went to John-Paul Dow who headed the ball straight into the top middle of the Newmains goal.

The final goal came minutes before the end of the game when Greenock substitute Martin Dow was passed the ball and, free from defenders, he curved it past Brown from 20 yards and finished the scoring 4-2.
