Royal Albert 0 v 3 Greenock Juniors J.Gilmour, A.Barnes, Jp.Dow
A home goalkeeper was all that stood between Greenock Juniors and a double figure thrashing when they played Royal Albert on saturday.
A final score of 3-0 to Greenock could have easily been a lot more if it wasn't for the efforts of Drew Black.
The performance of the Royal Albert goalkeeper started after 15 minutes as Mooney cut the ball back to Gilmour who sent a 15-yard drive into his hands.
Greenock's relentless pressure paid off in 22 minutes when Barnes made his way past a number of defenders before passing the ball into the path of Joe Gilmour who finished it from eight yards.
It was due to Black that the scoreing remained 1-0 until the 75th minute as Greenock's forwards were constantly denied by his impressive performance.
The second half started as the first had ended, with more Greenock pressure and, within five minutes of each other, efforts by Barnes, Dow, Mooney and Sutherland all forced a serious of saves from Black.
Greenock's confidence could not be held back, however, and after 75 minutes John Paul Dow followed the ball after Black made a save from Barnes and made it 2-0.
Three minutes later and Greenock extended their lead. Along kick by Rodgers found its way to Alan Barnes who spotted Black off his line and lobbed him from 25 yards.
A fine display from Greenock produced a result they deserved but special mention is given to Drew Black in reflection of Royal Albert's rugged resistance.
